Close up details of a slection of Anne Devine's work

INSPIRATIONS AND THEMES

Since the early cave painters, the 2D surface has been understood as a window to express the infinite. I work from this tradition interweaving figurative and abstract elements drawn from many inspirational sources which include; close observational studies from nature, the landscape, sacred themes, life drawing and portraiture.

Themes in my work explore the paradoxes of strength and vulnerability in nature, the infinitesimal and the monumental, elemental forces and the affects of time on the land.

Since my RSA residency in 2002 at Hospitalfield House in Arbroath, followed by my residency on Mull with An Tobar art centre, I have embarked on an ever widening exploration into the nature of landscape painting.

A selection of work from my residencies and exhibitions can be viewed in the portfolio section. Some work remains in private and public collections but others can be purchased.
